चिराय यत्कृतं सौम्य चिरमस्मिन् दुःखितः । गाथाश्चाप्यब्रवीद्विद्वान्गौतमो मुनिसत्तमः
cirāya yatkṛtaṃ saumya ciramasmin duḥkhitaḥ | gāthāścāpyabravīdvidvāngautamo munisattamaḥ
„Lieber, weil das, was getan werden sollte, verzögert wurde, bin ich lange in Kummer geblieben.“ So sprach auch der weise Gautama, der Beste der Munis, und trug Verse (gāthās) vor.
