कुतो वा लभ्यत इति सादरं समचिंतयत् । अशोकदत्तस्तु तदा विज्ञाय नृपकांक्षितम्

kuto vā labhyata iti sādaraṃ samaciṃtayat | aśokadattastu tadā vijñāya nṛpakāṃkṣitam

Ehrfürchtig überlegte er: „Woher ließe sich so etwas erlangen?“ Da erkannte Aśokadatta, wonach der König verlangte, und machte sich bereit zu antworten.
