Garuḍa sprach: Om. Möge Carmamuṇḍā euch beschützen—sie, deren Kehle vor Hunger ausgedörrt ist, deren Mund frisch von Blut ist; die auf einem Lotossitz aus Leichen thront; die inmitten von Scharen von Geistern spielt, im Wald der Pitṛs wohnend, den Dreizack in der Hand; deren Obergewand eine Schädelgirlande ist, triefend vom Blut der durch Waffen erschlagenen Helden—die Göttin, die glückverheißende Mutter der Helden, leuchtend wie der makellose Mond.

Scene: Garuḍa chants ‘Om’ before Carmamuṇḍā: a fierce moon-bright Goddess with parched throat, blood-fresh mouth, seated on a lotus of corpses, trident in hand, sporting among bhūta multitudes in the pitṛ-forest; skull-garland dripping with the blood of fallen heroes; yet her face bears a protective, maternal authority.
