Śiva-Naivedya-Grāhyatā-Nirṇayaḥ
On the Proper Acceptance and Merit of Śiva’s Consecrated Food-Offering
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Śiva Purāṇa teachings to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Declares Śiva-naivedya as mahāprasāda across all liṅgas—supporting pan-Śaiva pilgrimage and temple practice: prasāda is portable grace, not restricted to a single shrine.
Mantra: mahāprasāda
Role: liberating
Offering: naivedya
It teaches that for an initiated Śaiva, the offering made to the Liṅga becomes Mahāprasāda—Śiva’s grace made tangible—so partaking of it is a sacred act that deepens devotion and purity.
The Liṅga is the accessible (saguṇa) focus of worship; the verse affirms that offerings made to any Liṅga are sanctified by Śiva’s presence and may be received as holy prasāda by one established in Śiva-dīkṣā.
Offer naivedya to the Śiva-liṅga with mantra and devotion, then partake of it as Mahāprasāda with reverence—cultivating humility, gratitude, and disciplined Śaiva conduct after dīkṣā.
