Liṅga-pratiṣṭhāvidhiḥ — Installation Standards and Auspicious Parameters for Liṅga Worship
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: Within the kṣetra-mahātmya, mantra-oriented practice is introduced: varṇoddhāra (contemplative extraction/analysis of mantra-syllables) with bhakti yields heightened fruit; intention (kāmanā) accelerates worldly attainments.
Significance: Supports both bhukti and mukti: mantra-syllable contemplation with devotion is praised for extraordinary efficacy; desire-driven rites yield quick results (though v63 will privilege desirelessness for mokṣa).
Type: panchakshara
Role: teaching
It teaches that mantra-syllable contemplation (varṇoddhāra) empowered by bhakti intensifies spiritual merit, and that focused intention in Śiva-worship makes the karmic fruit manifest swiftly—supporting the Shaiva view that grace responds to sincere devotion.
In Saguna Śiva worship—especially Linga-upāsanā—mantra (such as the Pañcākṣarī) is central; the verse highlights that correct mantra-syllable focus with devotion makes the worship highly fruitful, aligning ritual form with inner intent.
Practice mantra-japa with precise syllable awareness (varṇoddhāra) and steady bhakti—especially of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—while holding a pure saṅkalpa (intent), as the verse emphasizes immediate fruit from such focused worship.
