Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; the verse functions as a śāstra-pramāṇa statement, grounding the teaching in Śiva-śāstra and the Śaiva Āgamas (notably Kāmika).
Significance: Establishes āgamic authority (āgama-prāmāṇya) for practice; for devotees, it legitimizes temple-ritual and yoga as Śiva’s revealed means toward pāśa-kṣaya (removal of bondage).
It affirms the authority of Śiva’s own teachings (Śivaśāstra) and the Śaiva Āgamas for defining the “distinct marks” of Shaiva doctrine and practice, guiding the seeker toward right knowledge and liberation under Pati (Śiva).
By pointing to the Śivāgamas—traditional manuals for Śiva worship—it implies that Linga-pūjā and Saguna-upāsanā should follow the Āgamic definitions and procedures, which are treated as authoritative within the Shaiva Siddhanta framework.
It suggests aligning one’s worship and sādhanā with Āgamic Shaiva practice—typically including mantra-japa (notably the Panchākṣarī), disciplined pūjā, and Śiva-oriented yogic contemplation as taught in texts like the Kāmika Āgama.
