Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Concludes the abhiṣeka sequence: repeatedly lifting/handling the ritual implement/object with mantra, bathing Maheśvara with respective dravyas, then completing pūjā with gandha, puṣpa, and dīpa.
Significance: Completing abhiṣeka followed by upacāras (gandha-puṣpa-dīpa) is a full worship cycle that, in Śaiva Siddhānta, supports removal of mala (impurities) and invites Śiva’s gracious turning (anugraha).
Role: liberating
Offering: dipa
It teaches that devotion becomes spiritually potent when joined with mantra and disciplined ritual action—external offerings (abhisheka, gandha, pushpa, dīpa) are made as conscious service to Pati (Śiva), purifying the worshipper’s mind toward liberation.
The instruction describes Saguna worship through tangible upacāras—bathing and offering fragrance, flowers, and lamps—typical of Liṅga-pūjā where Śiva is approached compassionately in an accessible form for bhakti and inner steadiness.
Mantra-guided abhiṣeka followed by upacāra-pūjā (gandha, puṣpa, dīpa). Practically, it suggests repeating a Śiva-mantra (commonly the Pañcākṣarī) while bathing the Liṅga, then completing worship with offerings in a focused, meditative manner.
