Pañcāvaraṇa-mārga Stotra to Yogeśvara Śiva
शिवाश्रितेषु संसक्तस्त्वनुरक्तश्च तैरपि । सत्कृत्य शिवयोराज्ञां स मे कामं प्रयच्छतु
śivāśriteṣu saṃsaktastvanuraktaśca tairapi | satkṛtya śivayorājñāṃ sa me kāmaṃ prayacchatu
Möge er—hingebungsvoll verbunden mit denen, die bei Śiva Zuflucht nahmen, und von ihnen wiederum geliebt—Śivas Gebot ehren und mir die erbetene Gabe gewähren.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: General Śaiva Siddhānta emphasis: refuge (śaraṇāgati) to Śiva and service to His devotees is a direct conduit for anugraha (grace) and fulfillment of righteous desires.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
The verse highlights that Shiva’s grace is approached through bhakti expressed as reverence to Shiva’s command and loving association with Shiva’s refuge-seekers (śivāśritas). In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, aligning the soul (paśu) with the Lord’s will (Pati-ājñā) prepares one for anugraha (divine bestowal), whether as a boon or as inner purification.
Worship of Saguna Shiva—often centered on the Linga—does not end at ritual alone; it matures into honoring Shiva’s instruction and serving those devoted to Him. The verse implies that devotion shown to Shiva’s community and obedience to His ājñā is a living extension of Linga-bhakti.
A practical takeaway is sevā and satsanga: respectfully serving Shiva-bhaktas and mentally offering one’s wish to Shiva while committing to follow His dharmic instruction. As a complementary practice, repeat the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with the resolve to honor Shiva’s ājñā in conduct.
