Significance: Positions Śiva-nāma as protective kavaca-like refuge in inauspicious signs; encourages constant remembrance (smaraṇa/saṅkīrtana).

FAQs

It teaches that remembrance and recitation of Śiva (nāma/mantra) transforms fear and inauspicious mental impressions, preventing them from ripening into suffering—Śiva as Pati grants inner fearlessness and outward protection.

In Saguna worship, the devotee takes refuge in Śiva through name, form, and devotion; chanting before the Śiva-liṅga (or while mentally visualizing it) is presented as a direct means to neutralize ominous signs and steady the mind in Śiva.

Repeated japa/saṅkīrtana of Śiva-nāma—classically the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—especially upon waking from a bad dream or when anxious, as a quick protective practice.
