Shiva Purana — Vayaviya Samhita, Shloka 97

The Sequence of the Second and Third Enclosure Worship (Āvaraṇa-pūjā)

FAQs

It teaches that dedicated Shaiva practice yields both worldly benefits and subtle spiritual merit, and that some attainments—like mṛtyuṃjaya (transcending fear of death and moving toward liberation)—are uniquely granted by Shiva as Pati.

The verse supports Saguna Shiva worship (such as Linga-puja) as an effective, grace-based means: through devotion and right observance, Shiva bestows results not reachable by ordinary effort, culminating in inner transformation and release from bondage (pāśa).

It broadly recommends undertaking Shaiva worship/vrata with discernment—classically including japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) or Mrityunjaya mantra, Linga abhisheka, and disciplined observance aimed at both dharma and moksha.
