Shiva Purana — Vayaviya Samhita, Shloka 39

Purification of the Six Adhvans / Sixfold Cosmic Path

FAQs

It presents a Shaiva yogic discernment: when the outward breath-speech activity quiets, the guru guides the seeker to perceive Shiva as the all-pervading Reality and to treat everything opposed to Shiva-consciousness as “non-Shiva,” i.e., not fit to be clung to.

Direction-based contemplation and the focus at the ‘forefront of speech’ support Saguna upasana (mantra and form-based worship), while its conclusion—seeing Shiva and rejecting the non-Shiva—leads the mind toward the Linga’s deeper meaning: Shiva as the pervasive Pati beyond limiting appearances.

A breath-and-mantra oriented practice: quiet the prana (so speech and breath subside), concentrate at the subtle ‘vāk-agre’ point, and contemplate Shiva’s presence in the directions—supporting japa of the Panchakshara and inward absorption.
