Shiva Purana — Vayaviya Samhita, Shloka 27

शिवसंस्कार-दीक्षानिरूपणम् (Śivasaṃskāra and the Typology of Dīkṣā)

Sthala Purana: Not tied to a specific shrine; presents the guru as the purifying proximity through which pāśa (pāpa/karma) loosens—anugraha operating via saṅga.

Significance: Elevates guru-saṅga as a mobile tīrtha: staying near the guru is portrayed as intrinsically expiatory and transformative.

Role: teaching

FAQs

It teaches that proximity to the true Guru—who reveals Pati (Shiva) and the means of liberation—burns away pāpa and inner impurities naturally, like heat melting ghee, emphasizing purification through satsanga and right guidance.

In Shaiva practice, the Guru establishes the disciple in Saguna Shiva-upasana (such as Linga worship) as a purifying discipline; through that guided devotion, the coverings of mala and pāśa weaken, making the heart fit for Shiva-realization.

Keep regular Guru-satsanga and follow the Guru’s upadesha—typically japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with daily Shiva-puja; the verse highlights “nearness” (consistent practice and guidance) as the key purifier.
