Satī’s Return to Austerity (Tapas) and Fearless Liṅga-Worship
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
It teaches that the highest fruit of tapas is not mere power or merit, but direct realization of Parameśvara (Shiva) as the sustainer of all and as the indwelling support of one’s own self—leading toward liberation.
Linga-worship (Saguna upāsanā) is a concrete means to steady devotion and concentration; this verse points to its culmination—recognizing the same Lord worshiped in the Linga as the inner Pati, the bearer of the worlds and the soul’s ultimate refuge.
Practice tapas as disciplined sādhanā—regular japa of Shiva’s name (e.g., the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with inward contemplation that the Lord is the जगतां भर्ता (sustainer of all) and the आत्माधार (support within).
