हिरण्मयस्तु यो मेरुस्तस्योल्बं सुमहात्मनः । गर्भोदकं समुद्राश्च जरायुश्चाऽपि पर्वताः
hiraṇmayastu yo merustasyolbaṃ sumahātmanaḥ | garbhodakaṃ samudrāśca jarāyuścā'pi parvatāḥ
Dieser goldene Berg Meru ist gleichsam die „äußere Masse“, wie ein „Nachgeburtrest“, jenes überaus erhabenen Kosmischen Wesens. Die Garbhodaka-Wasser wurden zu den Ozeanen, und auch die Berge wurden gleichsam zu den „Häuten“ (jarāyu), die es umgeben.

It frames the cosmos as arising from a higher, living principle—creation is not random matter but a dependent manifestation. In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, the world (pāśa) is an effect, while the Supreme Lord (Pati) remains the transcendent ground and inner ruler.
By portraying the universe as emerging from a cosmic source, it supports Saguna contemplation: the Linga signifies Shiva as the causal support of all forms. Worship shifts the mind from the visible effects (mountains, oceans) to their sustaining reality symbolized by the Linga.
A simple practice is creation-to-cause meditation: while repeating the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), contemplate oceans, mountains, and worlds as dependent appearances resting in Shiva, cultivating detachment and devotion.
