Inquiry into the Impurity of the Body
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse teaches that inner bhāva—sincere feeling, intention, and devotion—is the true power behind any relationship and, by extension, any worship. In Shaiva Siddhanta, right inner disposition turns practice into grace-bearing sādhanā; without bhāva, even closeness or ritual remains spiritually barren.
Linga worship is not validated by mere external offerings; it becomes fruitful when performed with living bhāva toward Saguna Shiva (the compassionate Lord approachable through form). The verse implies that just as affection without feeling is rejected, ritual without devotion does not truly ‘reach’ Shiva.
Perform japa of the Panchakshara—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and offer water/bilva to the Linga with deliberate bhāva (humility, surrender, and love). The takeaway is to prioritize inward recollection and sincerity over mere formal correctness.
