Sunartaka-Naṭa Avatāra and Pārvatī’s Boon-Request (Śiva as the Testing Benefactor)
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Sthala Purana: The Lord’s concealed presence becomes ‘untouchable like fire’—a narrative device showing that worldly power cannot move the Supreme when He wills concealment and testing.
Significance: Instructional: cultivates reverence toward tapasvins and the mysterious workings of Śiva; warns against judging by external marks (veṣa).
It portrays Shiva’s tejas as unapproachable like blazing fire, teaching that the Supreme Pati cannot be constrained by worldly power—only reverence, surrender, and inner purity allow one to relate to that divine presence.
The image of irresistible radiance aligns with Saguna Shiva revealed through a tangible focus (such as the Linga) while pointing beyond form to Shiva’s transcendent jyoti that no one can ‘remove’ or control.
Meditate on Shiva as inner fire-like radiance while repeating the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namah Shivaya), and support the practice with Tripundra (bhasma) and Rudraksha as aids for restraint, purity, and devotion.
