Jaṭilāvatāra-Parīkṣā: Pārvatyāḥ Tapasāṃ Parīkṣaṇam

The Jaṭilā Episode and the Testing of Pārvatī’s Austerity

FAQs

It teaches that Rudra (Shiva) is inherently beyond worldly desire; spiritual progress requires vairagya—approaching Shiva as the liberating Pati, not as an object of possessive attachment.

Linga/Saguna worship is a compassionate support for the mind, but the devotee must keep the intention pure—adoration and surrender for liberation, not worldly clinging—since Shiva remains ever unattached.

Practice mindful detachment while doing Shiva-upasana—japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namah Shivaya) and steady dhyana—offering all desires into Shiva rather than binding the mind to personal gain.
