Churning of the Milk Ocean
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages; the verse describes a devotee’s praise of Lord Shiva)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not tied to a specific Jyotirliṅga; it exemplifies stuti as the means by which even Brahmā approaches Śiva for grace and cosmic rectification.
Significance: Models bhakti as śaraṇāgati: ‘sarvasvāmin’ expresses total dependence on the Lord, a key Siddhānta posture for receiving anugraha.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
It highlights śaraṇāgati (surrender) expressed through humility (bowed posture) and bhakti (praise), recognizing Shiva as “Sarvasvamin,” the supreme Pati and the devotee’s sole refuge.
The verse models Saguna-upāsanā: approaching Shiva in a personal form with añjali and stotras—precisely the devotional attitude used in Linga worship, where inner surrender is offered along with outward reverence.
Practice namaskāra with kṛtāñjali before Shiva (or the Linga) and recite stotras with the भावना (intent) of “You alone are my all,” optionally supported by japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
