Chapter on the Ordinance of Initiation
Suta Goswami (narrating the Shiva Purana dialogue and injunctions of dharma as preserved in the Rudra Samhita context)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: yuga-pravṛtti (turning/commencement of an age)
It emphasizes continuity of Shaiva dharma across time: true practice is not merely taught once, but re-established in each age through lived discipline and faithful transmission in the guru–disciple lineage.
In Shaiva tradition, dharma becomes tangible through Saguna upāsanā—daily Linga worship, mantra, and vows—so that devotion is embodied and then passed on to disciples as a living standard of conduct.
A practical takeaway is to renew one’s Shaiva observances and teach them onward: steady japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), regular Linga-pūjā, and maintaining purity disciplines such as bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa where appropriate.
