Description of the Battle between Śiva and Śaṅkhacūḍa
Sanatkumara
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; it depicts Śiva’s gracious affect (smile, reassurance) toward Kālī after her speech, emphasizing līlā and anugraha.
Shakti Form: Kālī
Role: destructive
It shows Śiva as Parameśvara who responds to sincere speech with grace—his smile and reassurance signify the Lord’s compassionate governance (anugraha) within divine play (līlā).
The verse highlights Saguna Śiva—Śaṅkara/Śambhu—who is approachable and responsive. In Liṅga worship, devotees similarly seek the Lord’s comforting presence and auspicious protection through prayer and offering.
A practical takeaway is to steady the mind by japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) while contemplating Śiva’s gentle, reassuring nature—invoking fearlessness and calm during inner conflict.
