शिवतत्त्ववर्णनम् (Śiva-tattva-varṇana) — “Description/Exposition of the Principle of Śiva”
Lord Shiva (Rudra)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: The mutual indwelling of Śiva and Viṣṇu is a theological charter often invoked in kṣetra traditions to harmonize Hari-Hara worship and to validate shared pilgrimage circuits.
Significance: Encourages non-sectarian bhakti while maintaining Śiva’s lordship in the narrative voice; supports the idea that devotion to either, when rightly understood, conduces to divine grace.
Mantra: mamaiva hṛdaye viṣṇur viṣṇoś ca hṛdaye hy aham
Type: stotra
The verse affirms divine certainty (satyaṃ satyam) and teaches inner non-separation: the Supreme Lord is realized in the heart. From a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, it promotes steadfast bhakti and contemplation on Śiva’s indwelling grace while acknowledging harmony with Viṣṇu’s divine presence.
Linga worship trains the devotee to see Śiva as the indwelling Lord (antar-yāmin). This verse supports Saguna upāsanā by directing attention from outer form to inner realization—Śiva in the heart—while discouraging divisive thinking between deities.
Heart-centered dhyāna: meditate on Śiva abiding in the hṛdaya while japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”). As a supportive Shaiva practice, apply tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and maintain bhakti that sees the Lord’s presence within all.
