Devas and Śiva’s Gaṇas Engage in Battle
Suta Goswami (narrating the Rudrasaṃhitā account to the sages, with the verse reflecting a rebuking rhetorical question within the dialogue)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: teaching
The verse emphasizes moral and spiritual accountability: one cannot claim ignorance of Satī’s decisive act and Dadhīci’s counsel—both point toward steadfast devotion to Shiva (Pati) and the rejection of ego-driven disrespect that binds the soul (paśu) in pāśa.
By recalling Satī’s unwavering loyalty to Shiva despite social pressure, the verse supports Saguna devotion—honoring Shiva as the supreme Lord worthy of worship (including Liṅga-pūjā) even when worldly authority or pride opposes it.
The takeaway is steadiness in bhakti: maintain daily Shiva remembrance through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and cultivate inner restraint when faced with insult—responding with devotion rather than reactive ego.
