Als du sie erschrocken, zitternd, überwältigt und im Geist verwirrt sahst, zeigtest du mit dem Finger und sprachst: „Dies ist Śiva“, und dann redetest du zu ihr.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Pārvatīkhaṇḍa account to the sages)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Mantra: śivo'yam iti
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
It highlights how the jīva’s mind can become shaken and confused, and how clear guidance and recognition of Pati (Śiva) restores orientation toward devotion—an implied movement from bewilderment to śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) through grace and right understanding.
The verse emphasizes identifying and approaching Śiva in a perceivable, personal way (saguṇa recognition). In Śaiva practice, such recognition is supported through concrete forms like the Śivaliṅga, which stabilizes devotion and focus when the mind is unsteady.
A practical takeaway is steady remembrance (smaraṇa) of Śiva through japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” especially when fear or agitation arises—using mantra to re-center awareness on Śiva as the refuge.
