Narration of Kārttikeya’s Divine Play
Brahma
Tattva Level: pashu
It highlights the Shaiva virtue of receptive listening (śravaṇa) and the softening of ego—when wisdom is heard rightly, the mind becomes pleased and humble, making it fit for higher instruction about Pati (Śiva) and liberation.
Though the verse is narrative, it sets the devotional tone: true approach to Saguna Śiva (including Liṅga worship) begins with humility and attentive hearing of sacred counsel, which ripens into faith and disciplined practice.
A practical takeaway is daily śravaṇa/manana—listening to Śiva Purāṇa recitation and reflecting quietly; the “subdued tone” also suggests restrained speech and japa-like inner composure while approaching worship.
