Battle Episode—Śiva–Viṣṇu Convergence in the Devas’ Conflict

It presents Śiva (Pati) as the supreme director of cosmic functions: even Viṣṇu acts by Śiva’s command, showing that delusion (moha) can operate as a divinely governed instrument within dharma and karma, ultimately guiding beings toward Śiva’s grace and liberation.
By naming Śambhu as the one who commands and is consulted, the verse emphasizes Saguna Śiva’s lordship and governance—key to Linga worship, where devotees approach Śiva as the accessible supreme reality who directs all deities and worldly processes.
The takeaway is surrender to Śiva’s ājñā through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and steady discrimination (viveka) to move beyond moha; this aligns with Śaiva practice of centering the mind on Śiva’s will rather than भ्रम (confusion).
