Episode of Obstacles to Gautama; Gaṇeśa’s Appearing Through Misguided Worship

Sūta sprach: „Als sie so seine Worte vernommen hatten, gerieten jene erhabensten Weisen in Verwirrung des Verstandes und sprachen als Antwort eben diese Worte.“

It highlights that even great sages can experience buddhi-moha when confronted with profound Shaiva truth; the remedy is humble inquiry and attentive listening, which leads the intellect back toward clarity and devotion to Pati (Shiva).
In Kotirudra narratives—often tied to Jyotirlinga glory—such moments of confusion become turning points where seekers ask for the proper understanding of Shiva’s manifest grace (Saguna/Linga) that guides them beyond doubt toward steady worship.
The implied practice is śravaṇa (devotional hearing) followed by reverent questioning; paired with japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) it stabilizes the mind when understanding becomes clouded.
