FAQs

It teaches that Oṃ (Praṇava) is not merely a sound but the comprehensive signifier of all reality—both the cosmic totality and the individual constituents—when seen through the play and predominance of the guṇas, guiding the seeker to contemplate Shiva as the ground of all manifestation.

By stating that all manifested existence is encompassed by the meaning of Oṃ, the verse supports Saguna upāsanā: the Linga and other forms become sacred focal points where the entire universe and its principles are contemplated as present, while Oṃ points beyond forms to Shiva as the supreme reality.

Meditate on Oṃ as containing both the whole (samasta) and the parts (vyasta), and use Praṇava-japa (optionally alongside the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to transcend guṇa-bound perception toward Shiva-realization.
