दर्शनम् — Rama Receives Sita’s Token and Questions Hanuman
शारद स्तिमिरोन्मुक्तो नूनं चन्द्रं इवांबुधैः।आवृतं वदनं तस्या न विराजति राक्षसैः।।।।
śāradas timiro-nmukto nūnaṃ candra ivāmbudaiḥ |
āvṛtaṃ vadanaṃ tasyā na virājati rākṣasaiḥ ||
Gewiss: Ihr Antlitz — wie der Herbstmond, vom Dunkel befreit — wenn es von wolkengleichen Rākṣasas verhüllt wird, erstrahlt nicht, wie es sollte.
Seeing the precious jewel, Rama's eyes were filled with tears. Overwhelmed with grief, he spoke to Sugriva.
Dharma is the recognition that goodness and purity are dimmed when surrounded by wrongdoing; the verse implicitly condemns the rākṣasas’ oppressive environment as adharma.
Rāma imagines Sītā’s radiance being obscured by her captors, using the moon-and-cloud simile to express sorrow.
