Hanuman’s Post-Conflagration Self-Examination and Assurance of Sita’s Safety
नूनं रामप्रभावेण वैदेह्यास्सुकृतेन च।यन्मां दहनकर्मायं नादहद्धव्यवाहनः।।।।
nūnaṁ rāma-prabhāveṇa vaidehyāḥ sukṛtena ca | yan māṁ dahanakarmāyaṁ nādahad dhavya-vāhanaḥ ||
Gewiss, durch Rāmas Macht und durch Vaidehīs Verdienst hat mich dieses Feuer—dessen Wesen das Brennen ist, der Träger der Opfergaben—nicht verbrannt.
'Fire, the consumer of oblations who has the property of burning has not burnt me and this is surely on account of Rama's power and Vaidehi's merits.
Dharma is supported by grace and merit: righteous power (Rāma’s prabhāva) and Sītā’s sukṛta are seen as protective truths that restrain even destructive forces.
Hanumān notes that despite being amidst a massive fire, he himself was not burned, and interprets this as a sign of Rāma’s power and Sītā’s merit—supporting the hope that Sītā is safe.
