Commencement of the Ocean-Crossing
Provoked, Hanuman further stretched his body to thirty yojanas and Surasa on her own enlarged her mouth to forty yojanas. Then the great hero Hanuman stretched his body to fifty yojanas.
Repetition in recensions often functions as emphasis: the righteous agent persists repeatedly, matching challenge with resolve while staying aligned with duty.
A recensional duplication reiterates the escalating size-contest between Hanumān and Surasā during the test of passage.
Steadfast persistence (niṣṭhā): the verse stresses unwavering continuation rather than a single momentary effort.
