Sarga 15: The Devas’ Petition, the Means to Slay Ravana, and Vishnu’s Commission to Incarnate as Man
भगवन्त्वत्प्रसादेन रावणो नाम राक्षस:।सर्वान्नो बाधते वीर्याच्छासितुं तं न शक्नुम:।।1.15.6।।
bhagavan tvatprasādena rāvaṇo nāma rākṣasaḥ |
sarvān no bādhate vīryāc chāsituṃ taṃ na śaknumaḥ ||1.15.6||
«Ehrwürdiger Herr, durch deine Gunst ist ein Rākṣasa namens Rāvaṇa mächtig geworden; mit seiner Kraft bedrängt er uns alle. Wir vermögen ihn weder zu zügeln noch zu bestrafen.»
"O lord! a rakshasa by name Ravana who had obtained prowess through your grace is oppressing us. We are unable to punish him.
Power gained through boons or privilege must remain accountable to dharma; when protection turns into oppression, appeal to higher moral authority becomes necessary.
The gods report that Rāvaṇa, strengthened by a boon linked to Brahmā’s favor, is tormenting them and cannot be checked by ordinary means.
Truthful reporting (satya) and responsible escalation—acknowledging limits and seeking just remedy rather than concealing the crisis.
