द्वादशः सर्गः — Kaikeyi’s Boons and Dasaratha’s Moral Collapse

शीलव्यसनमेतत्ते नाभिजानाम्यहं पुरा।।।।बालायास्तत्त्वितिदानीं ते लक्षये विपरीतवत्।
śīlavyasanam etat te nābhijānāmy ahaṃ purā |
bālāyās tat tv idānīṃ te lakṣaye viparītavat ||
Ich wusste früher nicht, als du noch jung warst, dass ein solcher Makel des Wesens in dir liegt; doch jetzt sehe ich in dir wahrhaft das Gegenteil dessen, was ich einst kannte.
The king addressed Kaikeyi in humble words saying, Why did you exhibit this unfortunate act apparently beneficial to you? You are not ashamed of saying this like one whose faculties are possessed by an evil spirit.
