उपसंगृह्य तत्पादौ वीक्ष्यमाणो गुरोर्मुखम् । अधीष्व भो इति ब्रूयाद्विरामोऽस्त्विति चाऽरमेत्
upasaṃgṛhya tatpādau vīkṣyamāṇo gurormukham | adhīṣva bho iti brūyādvirāmo'stviti cā'ramet
Nachdem er die Füße des Lehrers ergriffen und zum Antlitz des Guru aufgeblickt hat, soll er sprechen: „Lehre mich, o Herr“, und, wenn es angemessen ist, auch bitten: „Möge eine Pause (Ruhe) sein.“

It prescribes approaching the guru with reverence—symbolized by holding the teacher’s feet—and seeking instruction while maintaining attentive eye-contact with the guru’s face.
It reflects disciplined study: the student requests instruction, but also appropriately asks for rest or a break, indicating order, restraint, and respect for the learning process.
Learning should be grounded in vinaya (humility and good conduct): respectful approach, clear request for teaching, and measured pacing rather than impatience or entitlement.
