Description of the Fruits of Pilgrimage
Puṣkara Tīrtha Māhātmya
अस्ति मे भगवन्कश्चित्तीर्थे यो धर्मसंशयः । तदहं श्रोतुमिच्छामि पृथक्संकीर्तनं त्वया
asti me bhagavankaścittīrthe yo dharmasaṃśayaḥ | tadahaṃ śrotumicchāmi pṛthaksaṃkīrtanaṃ tvayā
O erhabener, gesegneter Herr, ich habe einen Zweifel hinsichtlich des Dharma, der mit einem heiligen Tīrtha verbunden ist. Ich wünsche von dir eine klare, gesonderte Darlegung darüber zu hören.
Unspecified (a disciple/questioner addressing a revered teacher as 'bhagavan')
Concept: Tīrtha-dharma requires precise understanding; sacred geography is not mere travel but a disciplined practice guided by śāstra and guru.
Application: Before visiting holy places, learn the proper conduct (snāna, dāna, japa, restraint) and the intended inner transformation; ask for clear instructions rather than relying on hearsay.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: tirtha
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"The disciple gestures toward a rolled map-like palm-leaf list of sacred places, asking for a distinct, orderly account of tīrtha-dharma. The teacher sits composed, as if about to enumerate rivers, kṣetras, and their promised fruits, while the hermitage background subtly shows a river glinting through trees.","primary_figures":["disciple-questioner","revered teacher addressed as bhagavan"],"setting":"Āśrama veranda with manuscripts, a water pot for snāna symbolism, and a distant riverbank path used by pilgrims.","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["river blue","palm-leaf tan","sunrise gold","forest green","vermillion"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: teacher ‘bhagavan’ seated with gold leaf halo, disciple presenting a palm-leaf manuscript labeled tīrtha-dharma, ornate arch frame with lotus and conch motifs, rich reds/greens, shimmering gold highlights on manuscripts and vessels.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate teacher-student dialogue on a terrace overlooking a river, delicate lines, cool blues and greens, refined faces, a pilgrim path winding into the distance suggesting forthcoming tīrtha enumeration.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized river and trees, bold outlines, the teacher’s calm authoritative posture, the disciple attentive, warm red/yellow/green pigments, mural-like symmetry with ritual vessels prominently placed.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: floral borders with lotus and tulasi-like foliage motifs, a subtle Vaishnava atmosphere with conch and chakra emblems, deep blue field, the dialogue centered like a devotional vignette."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Desh","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["flowing water","paper/palm-leaf rustle","soft conch in distance","morning birds"]}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: भगवन्कश्चित् = भगवन् + कश्चित्; कश्चित्तीर्थे = कश्चित् + तीर्थे; तदहं = तत् + अहम्; श्रोतुमिच्छामि = श्रोतुम् + इच्छामि; मनश्चैव (in later verse) pattern noted; here no further mandatory splits.
The speaker asks the teacher to resolve a doubt about dharma related to a particular tīrtha and to explain it distinctly and in detail.
It implies a clear, separate, step-by-step explanation—an organized account rather than a brief or mixed description.
It models humility and careful inquiry: when unsure about dharma, one should seek clarification from a trustworthy authority rather than act on confusion.
