Narasiṃha’s Greatness and the Slaying of Hiraṇyakaśipu

Boon, Portents, and Cosmic Restoration

Concept: Evil often advances through coordination and intimidation—surrounding from all sides; dharma requires steadiness when encircled by fear.

Application: When problems close in from every side, avoid panic; choose one dharmic action at a time, and anchor the mind in remembrance (nāma) rather than intimidation.

Primary Rasa: bhayanaka

FAQs

It compares them to young serpents raising their hoods—suggesting a threatening, poised, encircling formation with heads and arms lifted.

They emphasize extraordinary force and speed: Indra as the archetypal mighty warrior-king, and the thunderbolt as instantaneous, irresistible velocity.

It is primarily narrative and poetic, using vivid similes to heighten tension and portray the martial readiness of the Dānavas.
