Concept: Dharma sometimes requires removing the conditions that protect wrongdoing; once concealment is gone, decisive action against adharma becomes possible.

Application: Identify the ‘ocean’ that hides a problem (systems, secrecy, enabling habits); remove the cover, then address the root cause thoroughly, including its ‘allies.’

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: raudra

Type: river

FAQs

The Kāleyas are described here as a force of sura-vidviṣ (enemies of the gods), i.e., an asuric host opposed to the devas.

In this verse it functions as a strategic, cosmic-scale act: by having the ocean fully “drunk up,” the speakers propose enabling the destruction of the Kāleyas and their allied forces.

The verse emphasizes coordinated action under a sage’s sanction (tvayā icchem): power is portrayed as properly exercised when aligned with wise approval and directed toward restoring divine order against hostile forces.
