Description of the Demons’ Austerities
Why the Gods Won
The sages (ṛṣayaḥ)
Concept: Inquiry (praśna) sustains dharma-kathā; understanding consequences of adharma requires attentive questioning and listening.
Application: Ask precise questions after setbacks: ‘What did they do next?’ becomes a model for reflective learning rather than reactive despair.

Sandhi Resolution Notes:
The speakers are the sages (ṛṣayaḥ). They ask what course of action the Dānavas—described as the sons of Hiraṇyakaśipu—took after being defeated in battle.
Vyavasāya here means a deliberate resolve or plan—what practical step or strategy they adopted after their defeat.
It acts as a transition question that prompts the next part of the story, shifting from the outcome of a battle to the defeated party’s next decisions and consequences.
