Adhyaya 44 — Subahu’s Counsel to the King of Kashi and Alarka’s Renunciation through Yoga

Sanskrit

ममेति प्रत्ययो भू प ! न कार्योऽहमिति त्वया ।

सम्यगालोच्य धर्मो हि धर्माभावे निराश्रयः ॥

Transliteration

mameti pratyayo bhūpa na kāryo 'ham iti tvayā / samyag ālocya dharmo hi dharmābhāve nirāśrayaḥ //

Translation

O König, pflege weder die Vorstellung „mein“ noch die Ich-Vorstellung „ich“. Bedenke recht: Dharma wird, wenn Dharma fehlt (d. h. ohne seine Grundlage), haltlos und ohne Stütze.
