Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that sacred listening (śravaṇa) is completed and made fruitful by ethical action—especially hospitality and charitable feeding—performed according to one’s means; such conduct is presented as a dharmic way to secure the ‘proper fruit’ of hearing the Virāṭa narrative.

In a concluding, prescriptive passage, the narrator Vaiśampāyana states the recommended observance for those who hear the Virāṭa-parvan: feed Brahmins with sweet rice prepared with ghee and sugar, so that the listener gains the full merit associated with the recitation/hearing.
