Identification of the Pāṇḍavas in Virāṭa’s Court
bhīṣmasya saṃjñāṃ tu tathaiva manye jānāti so 'strapratighātam eṣaḥ | etasya vāhān kuru savyataḥ tvam evaṃ hi yātavyam amūḍhasaṃjñaiḥ ||
Even amid warfare, discernment and proper conduct matter: recognize a warrior’s true condition (whether deluded or clear-minded) and approach with the tact and protocol suited to those who remain fully aware and capable.
The narrator observes that Bhīṣma is not incapacitated by a delusion-causing weapon because he knows its countermeasure, and he advises a careful manner of passing near Bhīṣma’s chariot—keeping the horses to one’s left—when dealing with undeluded, alert heroes.
