कृपस्य रथमास्थाय वैराटिरकुतो भय: । प्रदक्षिणमुपावृत्य तस्थौ तस्याग्रतो बली,अश्वसंचालनका रहस्य जाननेवाले मत्स्यनरेशके पुत्रने रथकी चालसे कौरवोंको मोह (भ्रम) में डाल दिया--वे यह न जान सके कि रथ किस महारथीके पास जाना चाहता है। विराटनन्दन महाबली उत्तरको किसी ओरसे कोई भय नहीं था। उसने कृपाचार्यके रथके समीप जा रथद्वारा उनकी प्रदक्षिणा की। फिर उनके सामने जा वह रथ रोककर खड़ा हो गया
kṛpasya ratham āsthāya vairāṭir akuto bhayaḥ | pradakṣiṇam upāvṛtya tasthau tasyāgrato balī ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Der Prinz Virāṭas — nach allen Seiten furchtlos — bestieg Kṛpas Wagen, ließ ihn in einer rechtsläufigen Pradakṣiṇā kreisen und hielt dann, der Mächtige, unmittelbar vor ihm an. In dieser Tat verbanden sich taktische Zuversicht und formale Ehrbezeugung, selbst in der Spannung des bevorstehenden Kampfes.
