Kaurava Court Hears of the Pāṇḍavas’ Forest Hardship (वैचित्रवीर्यवंशीयस्य राज्ञः करुणाविचारः)
समालोक्यैकतामेव शशिनो भास्करस्य च । समवायं तु त॑ रौद्रं दृष्टवा शक्रो5न्वचिन्तयत्,इस प्रकार चन्द्रमा और सूर्यकी एकता (एक राशिपर स्थिति) तथा रौद्र मुहूर्तका संयोग देखकर इन्द्र मन-ही-मन इस प्रकार चिन्तन करने लगे---
samālokyaikatām eva śaśino bhāskarasya ca | samavāyaṃ tu taṃ raudraṃ dṛṣṭvā śakro 'nvacintayat ||
Mārkaṇḍeya sprach: Als er sah, dass Mond und Sonne in eine einzige Ausrichtung getreten waren, und die unheilvolle Konjunktion des wilden (raudra) Augenblicks wahrnahm, begann Indra in seinem Innern nachzusinnen—was ein solches Zeichen bedeuten mochte und welcher Handlungsweg der rechte sei.
