तपोमूलमिदं सर्व यन्मां विप्रानुपृच्छसि । इन्द्रियाण्येव संयम्य तपो भवति नान्यथा,विप्रवर! आप मुझसे जो कुछ पूछते हैं, उसके उत्तरमें मैं यह बता रहा हूँ कि इस सबका मूल तप है। इन्द्रियोंका संयम करनेसे ही वह तपस्या सम्पन्न होती है, और किसी प्रकारसे नहीं
tapomūlam idaṃ sarvaṃ yan māṃ viprānupṛcchasi | indriyāṇy eva saṃyamya tapo bhavati nānyathā, vipravara |
Der Jäger sprach: „O Bester der Brahmanen, alles, wonach du mich fragst—sein ganzer Grund ist die Askese (tapas). Diese Askese wird wahrhaft nur durch die Zügelung der Sinne vollbracht; auf keine andere Weise wird sie erlangt.“
