The Vāmadeva Horses Episode and the Ethics of Promise

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that when moral order (dharma) weakens and injustice (adharma) gains ascendancy, the Divine actively restores balance by manifesting in the world—especially to protect the virtuous and restrain destructive forces.

A deity explains a recurring cosmic pattern: periods of oppression by invulnerable demons and violent rākṣasas lead to divine manifestation in human form, appearing among righteous households, to pacify and remove the threat to the world and the gods.
