Educational Q&A

The verse frames kṣatriya-dharma as the pursuit of the highest ‘satkṛtya’ (noble act) through courageous, duty-bound action—implying that for a warrior-ruler, there is no higher merit than steadfastly meeting the demands of righteous conflict and responsibility.

The narrator Vaiśampāyana reports someone addressing Yudhiṣṭhira as ‘O King’ and posing a rhetorical question about the greatest noble act for a kṣatriya—setting up an exhortation toward valor and duty in the immediate situation.
