वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a colophon, the verse itself teaches no new doctrine, but it frames the preceding episode ethically: the narrative unit is presented as a completed account of confronting and eliminating a harmful aggressor, implying that force may be dharmically warranted when used to protect the innocent and uphold order.
This is the formal closing line of the chapter/episode: it announces that, within the Vana Parva, the section dealing with the slaying of Jaṭāsura has concluded, and that the 157th chapter is complete.
