Rājarṣi-samāgamaḥ — Yudhiṣṭhirasya Dharma-parīkṣā ca

Meeting the Royal Sage and a Dharmic Audit

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how seemingly small desires—here, the wish for rare, fragrant flowers—can set powerful actions in motion. It implicitly contrasts affectionate intent (prītyā) with the need for discernment in exile: even loving requests can lead to risk, testing restraint and responsibility within dharma.

Draupadī explains to Yudhiṣṭhira that the saugandhika flower brought by the Wind was given by her to Bhīma out of affection, and she encouraged him to collect more if he found them and return quickly—foreshadowing Bhīma’s ensuing quest connected with these rare flowers.
