Adhyaya 60: Self-Assertion, Daiva, and the Rhetoric of Inevitability (उद्योग पर्व)
मयाभिमन्त्रित: शश्वज्जातवेदा: प्रशाम्यति । दिधक्षु: सकलॉल्लोकान् परिक्षिप्प समन्ततः,(वैसे तो मुझमें भी दैवबल है ही;) यदि मैं अभिमन्त्रित कर दूँ तो सदा सम्पूर्ण लोकोंको जलाकर भस्म कर डालनेकी इच्छासे प्रज्वलित हुई आग भी सब ओरसे सिमटकर बुझ जायगी
mayābhimantritaḥ śaśvaj jātavedāḥ praśāmyati | didhakṣuḥ sakalāṁl lokān parikṣipya samantataḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: „Wenn ich das weihende Mantra darüber spreche, wird das Feuer—Jātavedas—sogleich erlöschen, selbst wenn es lodernd begehrt, alle Welten zu Asche zu brennen, nachdem es sich ringsum ausgebreitet hat.“
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even overwhelming destructive power (symbolized by all-consuming fire) can be checked by higher spiritual discipline and rightful sacred authority; dharma expresses itself as restraint and the capacity to pacify violence rather than unleash it.
The speaker asserts that through mantra-consecration he can cause even a fire that has spread everywhere with the intent to burn all worlds to subside and be extinguished, emphasizing the potency of ritual-spiritual force over physical destruction.
