Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 50 — Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Appraisal of Bhīmasena (भीमसेनभयवर्णनम्)
saṁśaye tu mahati asmin ki nu me kṣamam uttaram | vināśaṁ hovā paśyāmi kurūṇām anucintayan ||
A ruler’s moral crisis is shown: when one’s policy is entangled in grave doubt, mere speech cannot resolve it; clear ethical action is required. Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s foreboding highlights the consequence of adharma—persistent partiality and refusal to restrain wrongdoing leads toward collective ruin.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra, troubled amid a major political and ethical crisis, confesses his inability to find a fitting reply or course of action. As he repeatedly reflects on the unfolding conflict, he foresees the destruction of the Kuru house.
