उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय 33: धृतराष्ट्र-विदुर संवादः (विदुरनीतिः)
असंत्यागात् पापकृतामपापां- स्तुल्यो दण्ड: स्पृशते मिश्रभावात् | शुष्केणाद दहाते मिश्रभावात् तस्मात् पापै: सह सन्धिं न कुर्यात्,पापाचारी दुष्टोंका त्याग न करके उनके साथ मिले रहनेसे निरपराध सज्जनोंको भी उन (पापियों)-के समान ही दण्ड प्राप्त होता है, जैसे सूखी लकड़ीमें मिल जानेसे गीली भी जल जाती है; इसलिये दुष्ट पुरुषोंक साथ कभी मेल न करे
asantyāgāt pāpakṛtām apāpāṁs tulyo daṇḍaḥ spṛśate miśrabhāvāt | śuṣkeṇārdraṁ dahate miśrabhāvāt tasmāt pāpaiḥ saha sandhiṁ na kuryāt ||
Vidura spricht: Wer die Sünder nicht verlässt, den berührt durch Umgang und Vermischung mit ihnen selbst als Unschuldigen dieselbe Strafe. Wie feuchtes Holz, mit trockenem vermengt, mit ihm verbrennt, so soll man niemals Bündnis schließen oder enge Gemeinschaft mit den Bösen suchen.
